2.39 Annual report

2.39.1 Bare Act Provision:

20P. Annual report.―(1) The Authority shall prepare once in every year, in such form and at such time as may be prescribed by the Central Government, an annual report giving full description of all the activities of the Authority for the previous year.

(2) A copy of the report received under sub-section (1) shall be laid, as soon as may be after it is received, before each House of Parliament.

Footnote:

1. Ins. by Act 10 of 2010, s. 4 (w.e.f. 16-6-1992).

2.39.2 Preparation of Annual Report:

Section 20P of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act, mandates the National Monuments Authority (NMA) to prepare an annual report of its activities and submit it for parliamentary review.[1] This section promotes transparency and accountability in heritage protection.

As per Section 20P(1) of the AMASR Act, the NMA must produce an annual report detailing all its previous year’s activities, following the format and timeline set by the Central Government. This ensures accountability by requiring a comprehensive record of the NMA’s work, enabling oversight to assess its performance in protecting Bharat’s cultural heritage.

2.39.3 Submission to Parliament

As per Section 20P(2) of the AMASR Act, the Central Government must present the NMA’s annual report to both Houses of Parliament promptly after receiving it. This enhances democratic oversight by allowing parliamentary review of the NMA’s activities, fostering public accountability.
