20Q. Power to call for information.―Where the Central Government considers it expedient so to do, it may, by order in writing call upon the Authority or the competent authority, as the case may be, to furnish in writing such information, in such form and manner as may be prescribed, relating to its affairs as the Central Government may require.]
Footnote:
2.40.2 Power to Call for Information
Section 20Q of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act, empowers the Central Government to request information from the National Monuments Authority (NMA) or competent authority to oversee heritage protection efforts. The Central Government can send a written order to the NMA or competent authority requesting specific information about their activities in a prescribed format whenever it deems necessary. This provision enhances oversight by ensuring the Central Government can access information to monitor the NMA and competent authorities, promoting accountability and alignment with the AMASR Act’s heritage protection objectives.
